After successfully overcoming the challenge of Brighton in the last round, Arsenal will now face conqueror of the 'citizens' Middlesbrough in 5th round clash. It will be played at the Emirates stadium. The date and time are yet to be confirmed.
Now with big BPL teams like Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Southampton out of the competition, Gunners are heavy favourites along with Manchester United and Liverpool to win the covered trophy again. Though both are yet to progress after being held for replay, the North Londoners should be confident of a good result if needed to face them considering the struggles of the other two REDS this season.
Moving on, our new (announced) signing Krystian Bielik was given the squad number yesterday. 17 year old will don the Arsenal Colours with 36 on his back. He was being thought to be featuring in UEFA Youth League Round of 16 clash away at Atletico Madrid yesterday.
But he didn't and saved his (any kind of) Arsenal debut from a loss! The U-19s were eliminated courtesy of a first minute goal. So now they have been sent packing from this competition by Spanish teams on consecutive occasions. Last year it was Barcelona.
Some Transfer News now. Villarreal yesterday confirmed capture of young forward Joel Campbell on loan till the end of the season. The Costa Rican played a bit part role with single starts in League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and substitute appearances in Premier League this season so this move makes sense as he may get some game time which his essential at this age for development.
Though we all know that Gabriel Paulista will play his next match for Arsenal (and he may feature on bench as earliest as Aston Villa game this weekend), the confirmation of his arrival and on loan departure of Campbell is pending from their part. In our not so very far memory, they were lazy with Bielik's announcement as well. They are busy with his photoshoot as it was the case with the young Pole I guess!!
Finally, club captain Mikel Arteta has agreed a 1 year extension to his current contract which was expiring at the end of the season as confirmed by his agent. Though he is out of action till April because of an injury, he is vital to the squad with the tons of experience that he possesses. So its a welcoming news for all the parties of interest. Other players namely Giroud and Coquelin are also thought to be offered new deals to prolong their presence at the club.
That's all for today.
