Arsenal Presser: Wenger talks of Ozil, Sterling and more

International football is now on break and club football is back. Arsenal face Liverpool this weekend at the emirates in early afternoon clash this Saturday. Wenger faced media this morning to talk of the game. Here's what he said.

Injuries and Team News
Mathieu Debuchy engaged in duel with Martin Skrtel in the reverse fixture
Note the Date. Presently Arsenal have every senior player in full training. All the long term absentees namely Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Debuchy, Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby are back in training but not ready yet. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also back in training after recovering from hamstring injury. Danny Welbeck has a slight knee injury and maybe fit in time to play. No other casualties reported regarding players on international duty.

Mesut Ozil
It was reported in media that Mesut Ozil was partying in a Berlin night club just hours after missing the Newcastle match due to sickness. Wenger defended his player saying he went to wish his friend happy birthday "You can't stop anyone wishing happy birthday."

Raheem Sterling
The pacy Liverpool winger has been linked with the Gunners which he termed as "flattering". Wenger was asked on the subject and he refused to talk on it "Sterling is a top player. I don't want to get involved in that just 48 hours before game."
He was quizzed later again but he didn't spoke his mind out "I have a big respect for Liverpool but I am focused on the game and producing the performances we have done recently."

FA's Homegrown players proposal
Arsene has strongly opposed the proposal where the number of homegrown players is to be increased from 8 to 12 out of 25-men squad.
"You have to be very brave to integrate the players. But the best players come through.Today you have to be very brave to integrate young players in the top teams because the pressure is so high."
"Between 1966 and 1996, there were no foreign players in England, and it didn't improve the national team. Up until now, English youth teams have not performed. That's the heart of the problem."

Abou Diaby's Contract
The often injured midfielder's contract expires this June. His track record of unavailability has casted doubts on his future at this club. Wenger said a decision has been made in this regard.
"I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future. He has to make a decision. Of course he understands completely that he has to perform and to show that he can be present on a consistent way."
“I will see where we go from there. I wouldn't like to go into details, we have to meet again to see where we go from what I told him. It has to be linked a little bit with his presence.”

Paulo Dybala Link
Reports were out in past few days linking the Argentine forward with Arsenal. Palermo club president even went on to state that the Gunners have made an offer. Wenger denied outright “Ask him to show you the offer. There is no interest, not at all.”
