With a win against the champions on Sunday, it was expected that the Monday will bring heaps of praises for the Heroes. And considering how good they were on the day, every bit of it was fully deserved. Though it was a great team effort, the main orchestrators Santi and Coquelin were singled out for appreciation.
Wenger when talking to media after the game was particular about Santi's influence on the team and importance of his two-footedness in the modern game. He said, "Since Cazorla has started playing centrally, he’s been fantastic because he gets you out of pressure in very tight situations. He finds openings that are very interesting. He is a good example for young players, he shows you how important it is to be two footed in the middle of the park - it’s a vital quality for a midfielder today - and he does that very well. He loves the
game." Ramsey while talking to Arsenal Player, described the Spaniard as a magician saying, "Santi's a little magician on the pitch. You saw him out there so many times, how he wriggles out of certain situations, and he had a very good game." He went on and added “We’re delighted for him and hopefully he can continue his form as well."
Speaking of Coquelin, Wenger was talking about his faith in the player " I took him from France at the age of 16. Today he is 23. He has gone through some difficult periods but he’s a learner from his experiences. I’ve always kept faith in him, because I told him three months ago that he needed to play somewhere. He accepted to go down to Charlton and had convincing performances. Now he’s come back, I’ve played him and he’s done very well." The Welshman joined in here as well saying "He has done well. He’s at that age now where he understands the game a lot more and he has done really well in the last few weeks. He wins it back, keeps it simple and just keeps things ticking over. Hopefully he can build on his performances that he has been showing of late and he has got every chance of turning into a top defensive midfielder.”
We all know that Coquelin was deemed surplus to requirements and was loaned to Charlton. But our injury bug forced him to be recalled. And on being drafted in the playing XI against the hammers, his inclusion met with great criticism by fans on Social Media. But he put in a good show and kept on improving with his best performance, which we couldn't have expected from any of our available players, coming against the mighty city. Now such is the situation that we will have to convince him for signing an extension as his current deal expires at the end of the season. Let's see how the things pane out between now and June.
Now some Bielik saga. We were informed by the player himself that he will sign the contract on Monday. Now I wonder if it has happened, then what is causing the delay in official confirmation from our side. Nonetheless, if it was not yesterday let's hope today is the day. And as soon as it happens, you'll know it through my tweet.
